Postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), that is clinically characterized by progressive weight loss, dyspnea, tachypnea and icterus in postweaned pigs, has been associated with infection by porcine circovirus type 1 (PCV2). In addition, PCVhas been associated with congenital tremors (CT) type A2 in pigs. Although complete genomic sequences of a number of PMWS-origin PCV2 are available, genetic analysis of PCV isolates associated with CT is not yet reported. In order to determine genetic variability among current PCV field isolates, we sequenced genomes of 4 PCV2 isolates from different geographical regions of Indiana that were obtained from pigs showing signs of PMWS. We also sequenced genomes of 2 recent PCV isolates from neonatal pigsshowing signs of CT type A2. To determine genetic variability between these recent and older CT-origin PCV strains, we also sequenced a historic PCV isolate that was used to reproduce CT type A2 in the late 1960s. This paper describes the sequence of these 7 field isolates of PCV from pigs with PMWS or CT and provides phyiogenetic analyses of these and 22 other reported field isolates.
