SUNCT is a syndrome of intermittent, very brief orbital/periorbital pain first described by Sjaastad1 The given title summarizes the clinical features: s hortlast-ing, u nilateral, n euralgiform headache attacks, with c onjunctival injection, t earing, and rhinorrhea.2 Although SUNCT is a relatively rare condition, an increasing number of recognized patients have been reported or communicated. Previous and present observations have permitted the accurate delineation of SUNCT as a clear-cut clinical picture, and the distinction of SUNCT from other similar headaches-including trigeminal neuralgia and cluster headache-has proved to be not only possible but relatively easy in most cases. An updated version of the clinical features of SUNCT is included in the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) diagnostic system, and two proposals on the diagnostic criteria of SUNCT have recently been published.
