Loss Analysis of Interior Permanent Magnet Motors Considering Carrier Harmonics of PWM Inverters Using 3-D Nonlinear Time-Stepping Finite Element Method
A calculation procedure to investigate harmonic losses of interior permanent magnet motors driven by PWM inviters is proposed. The 3-D nonlinear time-stepping finite element method is carried out with the voltage waveform, which is generated by the PWM inverter due to the controller command of the armature current. The calculated electromagnetic potentials at each finite element are decomposed into time- harmonic components to understand the harmonic characteristics separately. The calculated results are compared with the measurement to verify the validity of the method. The proper magnet division to reduce the eddy current losses is also clarified.
