An improved generation of molecular hollows for analyte inclusion is offered by molecular imprinting.Synthesis of the layer is performed in presence of the analyte,which after it;s removal from the highly crosslinked matrix leaves behind cavities and diffusion pathways capable of it's reinclusion.The resulting layers show excellent mechanical and chemical stability and can be synthesized directly on a suitable transducer.Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons cna be selectively monitored in water down to a few ng/l by fluorescence or mass sensitive detection principles.The sensitivity of a layer cna be tuned by using different PAH's as temeplate molecules.Mass-senstive measurements in liquid phase show a high sensitivity both with QMB's and shear wave resonators,negligible effects were obained with non-imprinted polymers.Imprinting methods even enable global characteerization fo complex mixtures such as engine-oil.Imprinted polymeric layers yield mass effects that are caused by an extraction of ooil ocmponents characteristic for the degradation process.
