. Assessment of the sympatho-vagal interaction incentral serous chorioretinopathy measured by powerspectral analysis of heart rate variability

It has been postulated that patients with central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) frequently have Tape A behaviour with increased catecholamine release. Therefore modulation of the central nervous system may be of value in the treatment of CSCR. The purpose of this study was to measure the activity of the sympathetic nervous system in patients with CSCR by a power spectral analysis (PSA) of heart rate (RR interval) variability. PSA is a suitable non-invasive method to reflect the balance of sympatho-vagal interactions and is already used in the assessment of the autonomic nervous system in various diseases, including essential hypertension, diabetic neuropathy and cardiovascular diseases.
