Propeller is one of important excitation sources of ship noise. It can make ship noise in two ways. One is interaction between propeller blades and fluid around the propeller, by which propeller can make hydrodynamic noise. The other is vibration excitation of cycle movement of propeller with propulsive shaft, propeller-shaft for short, by which it can make ship mechanical noise. In this paper we will only discuss about ship mechanical noise caused by propeller-shaft excitation in radial direction of the shaft. Because speed of ship propeller is often lower than 200rpm, the propeller-shaft is a kind of low speed rotor, analysis of the characteristic of movement of low speed rotor is the base for researching ship mechanical noise caused by propeller-shaft. Analyses about vibration excitation characteristics of ship propeller-shaft and suggestions about decrease noise caused by this kind of excitation will be discussed in this paper.
