Safety and performance assessments or a deep HLW repository involve the combination of a series of modelling assumptions and model calculations. Each component of the assessment is inevitably subject to uncertainties. Furthermore, such assessments are undertaken for a veriety of reasons. It is therefore recognised that a fundamental aspect of a performance assessment is a clear demostration that the approach and methods adopted are fit for the intended purpose.
