IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF ROUNDED DOVETAIL JOINTS

The paper reports on different reinforcement methods to improve the structural performance of Rounded Dovetail Joints (RDJs): i) reinforcement with self-tapping screws at an angle of 45°, ii) reinforcement with an adhesive layer between joist and beam, and iii) a combination of self-tapping screws and adhesive layer. The test series with the reinforcement methods were compared to test series of hand-routed non-reinforced RDJs. The results demonstrated that all three methods improved the structural performance of RDJs. The study evaluates the possibilities and limitations of the various reinforcement methods and provides immediate input for design.
