Moire Interferometric Measurement of Relative Displacements in Dovetail Joints

High sensitivity Moire interferometry was used to measure the relative displacements between the elements in contact in a dovetail joint. The technique is capable of measuring displacements of the order 10 to 100 microns with a sensitivity 0.2 microns. Production of gratings, optical arrangement, and test procedure are described.
