In this paper, the characteristic of wheel/rail interaction induced by roughness was investigated using field test and coupling dynamic model. Firstly, a series of tests were carried out in Shanghai subway system, and the characteristics of rail roughness were studied. Based on the filed test, a coupling dynamic model was established to analyze the characteristics of wheel/rail reaction induced by different type of roughness. The results show that the rail head roughness level at the joint area is about 15dB higher than one at the non-joint area, the contact normal force, and the stress in contact area increase with incensement of roughness amplitude and rise sharply as the wavelength of roughness decrease from 0.5m to 0.2m, the harmonic convex and concave roughness have the same affection on the wheel/rail interaction.
