In this study, it was tried to produce the lactic acid from sago palm (Metroxylon sagu) removed starch. On the selective screening experiment, Pycnoporus coccineus PHlh, a white-rotting fungus of wood, efficiently saccharified the sago palm. When Streptococcus bovis JCM 5802 was cultivated in the saccharified solution by P.coccineus, the lactic acid was produced at the relatively high yield. It was also devised to do the saccharification and fermentation as a series of process with the modified perfusion culture method. In this culture system, lactic acid was produced at about 40% yields for a week of culture.
