摘要

Laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) has many attractive features which renders it the preferred analytical technique for analysis of cultural heritage artefacts in many instances. The principal advantages are: direct analysis of solid materials (for dissolution-resistant materials); minimum sample preparation and reduced reagent/labour costs; virtually non-destructive analysis, avoidance of volatile element loss, avoidance of contamination arising from sample handling; microbeam capabilities for surface analysis, depth profiling and microanalysis; spatial information; high sensitivity (ppb level).
