To provide a bill processing unit that can detect a misarrangement of a bill storage cassette.SOLUTION: A bill processing unit 1 is provided with a plurality of storage spaces formed such that bill storage cassettes 41, 42, 5 can be attached/detached freely, and includes: a storage unit 21 that stores pieces of cassette related information associated with the plurality of storage spaces, respectively; a cassette detection unit 23 that detects that the bill storage cassettes 41, 42 have been attached/detached for each of the storage spaces; an acquisition unit 24 that, in a case where it is detected by the cassette detection unit 23 that the bill storage cassettes 41, 42 have been mounted in the storage spaces, acquires cassette information of the bill storage cassettes 41, 42; a determination unit 25 that checks the cassette information and the cassette related information to determine whether or not they are appropriate; and a notification unit 26 that, in a case where it is determined that the cassette information and the cassette related information are not appropriate, makes a notification.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
