A burner (30, 31) for a gas turbine power plant combustor (4), the burner (30, 31) having an axis (10) and comprising an inlet (32) fed by compressed air; an outlet (33) facing a combustion chamber (34); a lance (35) extending along the axis (10) and having a downstream portion (36) with a tip (37) substantially at the burner outlet (33); at least a fuel injector (38, 39) for injecting fuel in the air flow; an annular cavity (40) between at least the lance downstream portion (36) and a casing (41, 42); a swirl generator (43, 44) for generating in the annular cavity (40) an axial swirl of air or mixture air and fuel; wherein the burner (30, 31) further comprises at least a spark generator (45) at the lance tip (37).
