19,152. Harris & Co., P., and Belcher, S. Sept. 5. Gravity, measuring force of.-Figs. 1 and 2 show elevations at right-angles. The upright is made from a hollow tube of rectangular section filled with lead and fitted together in two sections by a spigot and socket joint D. At the upper end, the tube is slit to form a fork B, in which the aluminium pulley Q is mounted between screw centres, as shown. Each of the supporting brackets consists of a wall plate I carrying a slit tube G with a screwed clamping-head K. A short rod L enters the tube G, and, at its outer end, is made with a peripheral groove, to form a head to engage with a keyhole slot in the upright. Each of the tables T is made from a single blank, and is clamped by a cam-lever Y. The iron weight l is covered or partly covered with brass to neutralise the effect of residual magnetism in the electromagnet j.
