Baffles; fire-bridges; smoke, consuming. - In steem-boiler furnaces an additional combustion chamber A is formed behind the fire-bridge B1, comprising a fire-brick lining and a depending baffle C, and near the end of the flue a wall D serves to direct the combustion products upwards. Baffles E are formed in the side flues near the rear end of the furnace. Additional air for combustion is supplied through a chamber B in the fire-bridge by a damper b.
