The invention comprises compounds of the general formula FORM:1074800/C2/1 wherein R1 and R2 are alkyl radicals of 1 to 4 carbon atoms inclusive, and acid addition salts thereof, and the preparation thereof by mixing a piperidone of the formula FORM:1074800/C2/2 with a tryptamine of the formula FORM:1074800/C2/3 at an elevated temperature, either in the presence of a condensing agent or with the addition of a condensing agent to the material so formed. Penicillin salts of the compounds of the first general formula above are mentioned as acid addition salts used in the isolation of penicillins, particularly benzyl penicillin.
