A basket containing the instruments to be washed is accommodated in a bowl containing the liquid for washing and rinsing (5). It pivots freely on a vertical shaft (9) solidly secured to the bowl, and a pulsator is rotated by a shaft passing through the bowl. The pulsator (16, 17) is situated between the bottom of the basket (20) and that of the bowl, and is mounted eccentrically in relation to the basket axis. The pulsator blades can be spiral, each being of opposite pitch to the one opposite it. Alternatively, two centrifugal pulsators can be used, close together and rotating in opposite directions at the same speed, the basket being rotated by the movement of liquid in the bowl induced by the pulsators.
