Measurement of danger of corrosion of concrete reinforcement - involves application of electrode to concrete and connection to steel reinforcement

A galvanic cell is produced in a test area between the reinforcement elements and the concrete unit surface by application of an electrode on the concrete, surface and by connection of a current supply to the reinforcement elements; a constant d.c. current is applied to it. The steel reinforcement is connected as the anode of the cell and potential distribution over the steel reinforcement is measured against a reference electrode during a period beginning shortly before the current application; this period starts some 10 seconds before the current connection, and lasts one to three minutes.
