Positioning element (1) is intended for an electronic speed regulator of a combustion engine and has a spiral spring acting on the carburettor or injection pump. The spring (6, 7) has a force versus stoke characteristic which, in the region of low engine load, is steep, whilst in the subsequent higher load regions, it is flatter. The characteristic may be linear, at least in the first, steep region. The injection pump may act on the positioning element in the sauce direction as the spring, which is then so arranged that the maximum force of spring and pump combined acting on the positioner does not exceed the force which a spring with the steep characteristic would exert at that point.
