A desired-course selector, for a ship's automatic pilot 20 comprises two desired-value scales 16, 27 of which one indicates the required course to the automatic pilot and the other monitors the actual course being taken and controls an alarm 30; the two courses being measured by a gyro- and a magnetic-compasses respectively, and a single rotary knob 14 which can be turned to adjust both scales together or only the monitor scale 27 in order to zero for any magnetic deviation.
