Slab roof for ramped access to underground car park - can be lowered via jacks to seal access and convert park into shelter

The vertical displaceable horizontal cover slab (1) is mounted on jacks (2) and positioned over the ramped access shaft (6), descending to ground level to effect closure and vice versa. When raised, the slab forms a roof to the shaft, and the arrangement enables a car park to be sealed off and converted into an underground shelter. A vertical shutter panel (7) may be built onto the slab in such position as to block off the access ramp at closure. Waterproof seals may be provided on the peripheral seats of both the slab and the shutter.
