A biologically effective system is used for securing coastal areas of land subject to erosion by the sea. Nets are suspended at varying distances from the shore, at an interval apart, between the surface and bottom of the sea. The nets aree prepared so as to serve as breeding areas for oyster, mussels and similar creatures. Wave energy may be diminished, and new sediment built up, by application of assemblies of vertical hanging nets for mussel culture in front of the shore.
