摘要
Prodn. of a monospecific antibody (A), specific for males, comprises first introducing male mammalian cells as antigen into a female mammal, then recovering a crude antiserum from the blood of the host. Complement in the antiserum is inactivated and the antiserum subjected to series absorption against female cells to produce an antiserum contg. (A). The monospecificity is opt. checked using anti-male antigen, then the immunoglobulin fraction recovered to give a compsn. contg. (A) which is free of proteins, which interfere with binding to an immunoabsorbent. Also new are compsns. contg. (A); conjugates of (A) with a solid-phase immunoabsorbant, and methods for separating 'male' and 'female' sperm using (A). Immunological methods for fractionating semen using (A) do not depend on slight differences in density between male and female sperm. The fractionated sperms are used to ensure a high proportion of offspring of one particular sex.
