Compsns. for preparing orally administrable solns. for rehydration of animals suffering from diseases associated with dehydration and electrolyte loss comprise glucose, Na and K salts, and one or more Gp. II metal salts of 2-8C alkanoic acids. Prefd. Gp II metal salts are Mg and/or Ca acetate and/or propionate (esp. acetate), which may be added to a base mixt. of the other components in an amt. of 10-400 wt.%. The base mixt. pref. comprises 60-90 wt.% glucose (or 30-70 wt.% glucose and 10-40 wt.% amino acids or their salts), 12-30 wt.% Na salt (calcd. as NaCl) and 2-8 wt.% K salt (calcd. as KCl). The compsns. may also contain antibiotics and/or chemotherapeutic agents. Inclusion of the Gp. II metal salts yields readily soluble free-flowing powder mixts. which may opt. be tabletted to produce stable tablets. (Fl).
