Voice-operated command input unit for interactive system - automatically selects one of two modes depending on operator experience

The unit is used to speed up the input of spoken commands to the 'man-machine' interactive system. When the system is ready (9) to enter a message the user is alerted by a simple instruction (10) from a loudspeaker, e.g. 'start message', and the command recognition circuit (11) is switched on. If the user then says 'Record', followed by the message and 'End' (12Y), the command is recognised (16) and executed (17). If the user says nothing (12N) within a preset period, a more detailed instruction is given, after which the recogniser (14) is switched on, the command recognised, if in the correct format (15), and executed (17). The unit consists of a microphone, loudspeaker, command memory, instruction memory and control circuit.
