A lifting rod (5) for connecting the lifting arms (3) to the lower bars (2) in a hydraulic lifting mechanism on a tractor consists of a hydraulically activated piston/cylinder unit (6, 7, 8). Arranged in the lines (17, 18) to the two piston sides are nonreturn valves (11, 12) which can be unblocked. In order to obtain a so-called floating piston position, i.e. a free movement of the piston (7) of the piston/cylinder unit (6, 7, 8), the nonreturn valves (11, 12) are designed as valves which can be unblocked electromagnetically.
