PURPOSE:To obtain the title readily sinterable powder capable of giving dense superconductors of high critical current density by adding a copper compound solution followed by a precipitating agent to a coprecipitate made up of a rare earth element component and alkaline earth element component to form a three-component coprecipitate which is then calcined. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, a solution of a rare earth element compound (e.g., YCl3), a second solution of an alkaline earth element compound (e.g., BaCl2) and a precipitating agent (e.g., ammonia water) are mutually mixed to form a coprecipitate made up of a rare earth element component and an alkaline earth element component. Second, a solution of a copper compound (e.g., copper nitrate) is added to the above coprecipitate to prepare a suspension, which is then spiked with a precipitation-forming agent (e.g., oxalic acid) to produce a coprecipitate made up of a rare earth element component, an alkaline earth element component and a copper component. Thence, this coprecipitate is calcined at 500-950 deg.C to obtain the objective readily sinterable raw material powder for rare earth element-alkaline earth element-copper oxide-based high- temperature superconducting ceramics.
