PROCESS FOR TREATMENT OF PHOSPHOROUS SLUDGE

Sediment deposited at the bottom of water is treated by injecting a non-gaseous treatment agent directly into the sediment. - The injection nozzles are directed downwards. The treatment is carried out from a vessel having a tube which can be lowered onto the bottom, which is directed transversely to the sailing direction of the vessel, and which has fitted nozzles. The treatment agent is injected 10-40cm deep into the sediment. The treatment agent is a soln. or dispersion in water of at least one substance or microorganism which renders a pollutant harmless, esp. an Fe salt such as FeCl3 or Fe2(SO4)3 and/or a pH regulating agent. The Fe salts bind phosphate and combat eutrophication.
