The invention relates to a process for the preparation of electroconductive, doped polyacetylene by polymerisation of acetylene in the presence of a solution of active metal catalysts which has a viscosity of between 5 and 50000 mPa.s, and doping of the resultant polyacetylene, where the metal catalyst used is a combination of tetraalkyl titanate and an alkylmetal compound from the group consisting of alkylyttrium, alkylscandium and/or alkyllanthanum compounds, and the catalyst has optionally also been modified by means of a reducing agent from the group consisting of alkylmagnesium and alkylbarium compounds or another soluble organic magnesium or barium compound. Before the doping the catalyst-containing polyacetylene is expediently treated with an organic copper compound, preferably copper(II) acetylacetonate.
