A plastic implant system for assisting in the repair of bone fractures is described. The repair provides both sufficient strength and stability to the break and the properties of the polymer give a faster relaxation behaviour compared to metal. The device consists of a profiled splint and several clasps with attachment points for the splint and two component locking bolts. A hole is bored in the bone to take each locking bolt which passes through both a clasp and the splint. Biodegradable plastics, pref. polylactide, polyglycolide or polydioxanone are used for manufacture. USE/ADVANTAGE - For repair of bone fractures without the use of metal splints and screws. The device is biodegradable therefore further operations are not required for removal of rejected metal components.
