The device (72) has a coupling element inserted into transverse holes of an intramedullary nail (14). A longitudinal channel is extended from a proximal end of the nail to a distal end region of the nail. A securing element (102) i.e. tension wire (112), of a safety device (110) is extended into the channel, where temporary slackless arrangement of the device is made by the safety device. The securing element is directly or indirectly placed at the proximal end and engaged with the coupling element in a securing position, for defined zero clearance setting of the coupling element at the holes. An independent claim is also included for an intramedullary splinting system for splinting a long bone with a medullary cavity.
