Concrete paving slab - has projections formed along edges which fit between projections on edges of adjacent slabs

The concrete paving slabs are formed with a line of projectins along each edge. Each projection has a flat crest (2) and sloping sides (3). The projections (1) are so spaced that the projections of one slab fit into the spaces between projections of the adjacent slabs. Relative sideways movement between adjacent slabs is thus prevented. The slabs are produced in a press which produces a textured pattern on the upper surface (5). The press operates so that an additional pressure is applied to the slab edges (4) and projections which results in the concrete in these regions having a higher strength than the concrete in the rest of the slab.
