A thickness gauge for the contactless and continuous measurement of the thickness of electrically non-conductive materials, especially polymer material webs (1) like films or the like, paper webs or ceramic layers, with a contactless distance measuring sensor (2) kept floating with respect to the material web (1), with at least one air outlet nozzle (3) allocated to the distance measuring sensor (2), in which a flow of air can be directed through the air outlet nozzle (3) from one side on the material web (1) in such a way that a distance predeterminable by the air pressure is set between the material web (1) and the floating distance measuring sensor (2) and with a metal plate (4) or second distance measuring sensor (5) arranged on the other side of the material web (1), whereby the distance measuring sensor (2) makes its measurement against the metal plate (4) or second distance measuring sensor (5), is so constructed that the metal plate (4) or the second distance measuring sensor (5) -- like distance measuring sensor (2) -- is kept floating at a predeterminable distance from the material web (1).
