Antitheft system for motor vehicle with non-powered steering - is activated by key inserted into hub of steering column whose cladding conceals electrical contact pins and slip-rings
Between the steering wheel (33) and the top of the steering column, a mechanical clutch is interposed in a cylindrical housing (1) with a toothed wedge (2) having an internal thread (3), and a toothed guidance bearing (6). The thread engages with the external thread of a lock housing (11) equipped with compression springs (13) and a ball lock (14) secured by pins (15,16). Two electrical contact slip-rings (28,29) are integrated with cable connections (30,31) in the rigid cladding (32) of the column. ADVANTAGE - The driver can render the alarm device inoperative, restore the steering to working order and release the ignition circuit or starter motor, at one and the same time with a traditional key.
