The invention relates to a method and a device for processing and detecting with a high visibility factor, used for the spectral analysis of a sampled signal, and its applications, particularly to Doppler radars. According to the invention, from samples (Xn) of a burst of pulses in a remote gate, the signal is autoregressively modelled (1) in order to obtain the coefficients (a1 to a4) of the predictive filter, followed by a search for the poles (2) in order to determine the frequencies of the spectral components of the signal. The amplitude (A1 to A4) of these components is determined by adaptive filtering (4.1 to 4.4) in channels separately processing each component, after rejection of the other components by a blanking (whitening, bleaching) filter, and by carrying out the correction of the gain necessary to obtain a unit gain in the channels. The detection (5.1 ... 5.i) is achieved by using a criterion of contrast over the maximum in the forward and backward distance/frequency zones.
