PURPOSE:To quantitatively measure the wear at tip of tuyere by arranging ultrasonic wave detector near the outlet of cooling water for the tuyere in a blast furnace, oscillating the ultrasonic wave to the exhausting cooling water and observing the intensity of reflective echo by an oscilloscope to check the quantity of bubbles in the exhausting cooling water. CONSTITUTION:Cooling water is supplied from the cooling water inlet 3 in the tuyere 1 for the blast furnace and passed through cooling water passage 2 in the tuyere, to cool the tuyere 1 and exhausted from the outlet 4. The wear part 7 is developed at the tuyere 1, especially at the tip, and in case the remaining thickness of tuyere 1 becomes (t) mm, the bubble in the cooling water is developed in accordance with the value of (t). The ultrasonic wave detector 5 is arranged near the cooling water outlet 4 and the ultrasonic wave is oscillated into the cooling water and the intensity of echo reflected by the bubble is imaged on the oscilloscope 6, and compared with the preset standard value. The remaining thickness (t) of the tuyere is accurately determined, and, exchange of the tuyere is effectively executed.
