PURPOSE: To provide a gas turbine engine having high output horsepower and to provide a method for improving output of the gas turbine engine. ;CONSTITUTION: An engine 1a has, in order, a low pressure compressor 2, a high pressure compressor 3, a combustor 4, a high pressure turbine 5 and a low pressure turbine 6. The high pressure turbine is connected to and driven by two compressors, and a speed reducing gear box 19 is between the two compressors. An intermediate cooler 22 between the two compressors reduces the horsepower requirement of the high-pressure compressor. Sufficiently heated flow from the combustor flows out and enables the high-pressure turbine to drive the two compressors, and output horsepower of the low-pressure turbine is transported to the engine load.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
