PURPOSE: To obtain a luminous material having long afterglow and high intensity characteristics. ;CONSTITUTION: This high intensity luminous material having long aftergrow consists of a monoclinic crystal of the formula MNyAl2-xBxO4 [M is an alkaline earth metal; N is a rare earth atom; 1≥(x)≥0.1; (y) is 0 or 1]. Especially preferably M is strontium and N is europium. Moreover, a part of strontium represented by M can be substituted by at least one kind of alkaline earth metal selected from Mg, Ca and Ba.
