PURPOSE:To effectively remove highly radioactive cruds by cleaning and removing the highly radioactive cruds captured on the surfaces of filter elements consisting of a multilayered structure with impulsive water or gas. CONSTITUTION:A waste water 8 overflowing form a side bunker pool 1 to a skimmer surge tank 6 is run in a circulating line 32 by a decant pump 33 and is transferred through a pool water inlet valve 34 to a filter device 30. The radioactive cruds incorporated into the pool water 8 by a filter element bundle 31 in the device 30 are removed. While the differential pressure of the filter element bundle 31 increases as the cruds are captured, the element surfaces are cleaned by back washing to remove the captured cruds when the differential pressure attains a specified value. The filter element bundle 31 is thereby regenerated. At the time of the back washing valves 34, 36 are closed and a valve 38 is opened to supply a gas for pressurization from a gas line 20 for pressurization to pressurize a tank 19. The impulsive pressurized water is passed in a reverse direction by repeating the opening and closing of a valve 18.
