A device for agricultural machines to carry out noncontact investigation of stretched above the soil contours, such as, for example, the contour of a swath of the yield gathered, having a laser distance-measuring device and an analyzing device. The laser distance-measuring device consists of a device to receive-transmit the laser beam, which, based on measuring the time of action of a used for investigating laser beam radiated and reflected from a point of thе contour, determines the distance to this contour and is made in such a manner as to allow a turn which provides for a turn of the laser investigating beam. With the aid of the analyzing device, on the basis of the distance measured, the arrangement and adjustment according to the level of the laser distance-measuring device on an agricultural machine (mounting height, angle of inclination to the soil), for each rotation angle, determined is the position of the point of the contour corresponding to the rotation angle.
