PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sake cask and method for improving the sake cask into barrelhead opening cask in which the sake cask can be easily modified into a barrelhead opening cask without using any troublesome work under application of an easy technique. SOLUTION: A lever member inserted into and engaged with an engaged segment 51 of divided plate sections 50A, 50B and 50C is operated around a fulcrum point of an upper end edge 1B of a cask main body 1A, the divided plate section 50B provided with the engaged segment 51 is removed from a barrelhead 5, the residual divided plate sections 50A, 50C and an assembled plate 5A are removed from the cask main body 1A under application of a circumferential edge of the opening after removal of these plate sections, and then the divided plate sections 50A, 50B and 50C are replaced with another new assembled plate 5B and the assembled plate is replaced and arranged at the upper opening part of the cask main body 1A.
