PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pulse wave propagation time measuring instrument capable of measuring the pulse wave propagation time with high accuracy. SOLUTION: The first time difference ATL from the Q wave of an carotid arterial pulse to the rising point of a carotid arterial pulse is calculated and a second time difference ΔT2 from this Q wave to the rising point of a brachial artery pulse is calculated. The temporary preejection time PEP' is calculated in accordance with the first time difference ΔT1 and the second time difference ΔT2 and the temporary preejection time PEP' is subtracted from the first time difference ΔT1, by which reference pulse wave propagation time DT (R) is calculated. Pulse wave propagation time candidate DT (C) from the rising point of the second cardiac sound to the notch candidate determined by a candidate determining means 80 is calculated relating to all the notch candidates by a pulse wave propagation time candidate calculating means 81. A pulse wave propagation time candidate DT (C) most approximate to the reference pulse wave propagation time DT (R) is determined as the normal pulse wave propagation time DT (E) from plural pulse wave propagation time candidates DT (C) by a normal pulse wave propagation time determining means 84.
