PURPOSE: To obtain the subject optically active compound without formation of by-products by cyclizing a specific compound, then treating with acid after basic hydrolysis of the resulted compound, and allowing the resulted mixture to react in an acid medium. ;CONSTITUTION: The compounds of formulae IV, V and VI are obtained by cyclizing the compound of formula I (X is Cl or Br) with the compound of the formula (CO₂R¹)₂CHNHCOR² [R¹ is a 1-4C alkyl; R² is H, etc.], in a basic medium to obtain the compound of formula II, then hydrolyzing the compound of formula II under the basic conditions, further decarboxylating by acid treatment to obtain the compound of formula III, and allowing the compound of formula III to react in an acid medium.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1992,JPO
