We previously reported the development of porous p-phenolsulfonic acid-formaldehyderesin catalyst (PAFR) as a first-generation acid catalyst for direct esterification andtransesterification without any removal of water or alcohols.1-3 Although PAFR showed thehigh catalytic activity under batch and continuous flow conditions (less than 1 mol% SO3H ofPAFR),its reusability was not satisfied.Herein,we would like to present a more stable,active,and reusable second-generation m-phenolsulfonic acid-formaldehyde resin catalyst (PAFR II)and its application to Fischer-Speier esterification under batch and continuous-flowconditions.4
