PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate the impedance of a system always in a stable state regardless of the state of an AC system.;SOLUTION: When a thyristor is operated in a capacitive impedance range, an angle in the range of 0 to (βlim-Δβc) degrees is selected as a firing phase angle β to ignite the thyristor by a firing pulse signal at a phase-control angle αin accordance with the firing phase angle β. When the thyristor is operated in an inductive impedance range, an angle in the range of (βlim+Δβ1) to 90 degrees is selected as a firing phase angle β to ignite the thyristor by another firing pulse signal at a different phase-control angle a in accordance with a different firing phase angle β.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
