The method involves processing signals (2,3) received via a number of microphones (1a,1b) using a stored noise reduction algorithm, whereby noise is reduced if the noise situation coincides with assumptions of the algorithm(s). At least one or several different noise reduction algorithms is stored and separately switched on and off or selected and independently activated. Characteristic parameters for the noise sound field are determined by analysing the signals, are associated with the individual algorithms as typical parameters and the corresp. algorithm is selected according to its parameters.
