PURPOSE:To quickly specify dead stones at the end of a game by a method wherein points surrounding a point of a specified stone is retrieved, and points surrounding it and of a same kind as the specified stone are successively re trieved, and those of the same kind are marked as dead stones and stored as dead stone points. CONSTITUTION:When a stone (f) in a block is specified as a specified stone, a point of the stone (f) is a 1st retrieval point. Each of four points surrounding it, right and left, and upper and lower, is retrieved. Points of the same kind of stones as that of the 1st retrieval point or vacant points 10-17, 9-16, 10-15 are stored temporarily. Points of the same kind of stones as that of the 1st retrieval point are marked as dead stones and stored in a point storing means. And, each of the points of the same kind of stone or vacant ones 10-17, 9-16, 10-15 temporarily stored is successively retrieved as 2nd, 3rd,... and N retrieval points.
