The invention relates to, among other things, a method for determining double strand breaks which comprises the following steps: a) depositing cells and/or tissues to be examined on specific filters; b) lysis of the cells/tissue with at least one detergent, with at least one chaotropic substance, and with at least one fluorescence dye that binds specifically a DNA double strand; c) elution of the DNA fragments, released by the lysis, through the specific filters, and; d) carrying out a fluorescence spectroscopic evaluation, whereby only one eluate fraction is collected per well.
