PURPOSE: Provided are a distillation method of obtaining highly pure 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3- pentanediol mono isobutyrate in more than 99wt.% yield and the preparation device thereof. In the distillation, low boiling point and high boiling point by-products and the residues are eliminated separately in turn in a lower and a higher distillation columns through a side-cut. CONSTITUTION: The preparation device comprises: a reactor(1) to prepare 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol mono isobutyrate; a phase separator(2) to separate the inorganic and organic materials in products generated from the reactor; a recovery distillation tower(3) equipped with the outlet pipe to recover unreacted isobutyraldehyde from oil layer at the top part and the outlet pipe to recover the residue at the bottom part; and distillation column(4,5) which has a supply nozzle for the raw material installed at the center of the column within a range of 4 plates and a side cut nozzle(19) installed at a side position above 2 plates between the supply nozzle and the bottom part of the tower. The distillation method consists of distilling the mixed reaction products on the distillation column equipped with a side cut at a side position above 2 plates of the column to obtain the residue, eliminating the low boiling point by-products at the top of the column and high boiling point by-products at the bottom.
